Parts of Highway 40 (I-64) TOTALLY shut down in 2008 (and 2009)
Right now the five miles between I-170 and Ballas Rd (near I-270) are shut down (so basically I-64 between I-270 to I-170 is closed). Get your traffic information and alternate routes (and maps) before you head out the door.   Dial 511 for traffic info. The recommended alternative route is to use the interstates as much as possible. Routes seem to have "stabilized" in volume and travel times. I-70 has the reversible lanes open to ease congestion. Some of the local TV stations have traffic tickers during the rush. Again, stick to the interstates as much as possible.
